One of my favorite rides is the Vashon Loop starting from Seattle on
Saturday and taking the foot ferry (Tomorrow should be a winner ...weather
looks great ... meet me for 9:30am ferry at Pier 52 if you want to join me
on a "lazy" moderate loop).
However the ferry/ride is not the point of this note. Many years ago (less
than 5,) I went on a club ride around Vashon that took a route (maybe I
dreamed it?) that went through a rough tree lined country road from
Ellisport to Ridge Road without climbing any hills. It was a magical few
miles remembered in dappled sunlight. Now when I do the loop I can't find
this magical route and I find the climb to Ridge Road on SW Ellisport road
(going to Vashon High School) to be a bit of a bother. (I go this way as
I avoid Vashon Highway and traffic and come into town center on SW Bank
(or 176th).
Perhaps the solution is not to drop to Ellisport (you are looking at a map
now aren't you?) but to keep on Dockton and then drop to Ridge road rather
than climbing but I suspect that won't work.
Does anyone remember the route? I will be going tomorrow but let me know
whenever you read this as I will be doing the Vashon loop again and again.
